From first inquiry to a scheduled detail
Every project starts when the customer reaches out for a quote and tells us about the vehicle, its condition, and the finish they want. We arrange a consultation and paint inspection so we can evaluate the actual vehicle rather than guess from a few photos. During the inspection, we review the paint in suitable lighting, discuss the visible defects and the customer's priorities, and explain realistic outcomes.
We then perform a test spot using an appropriate pad, polish, and machine combination. The test spot helps show what the specific paint responds to and whether the vehicle calls for a one-step, two-step, or more involved multi-stage correction. We also assess paint thickness across panels with a paint thickness gauge where accessible, looking for variations or signs that call for extra caution. Gauge readings are used as a risk-assessment tool, not as a promise that every defect can be removed.
Once the condition and test spot are understood, we walk through the recommended package, the expected improvement, the limitations, and the investment. We agree on a package that fits what the vehicle needs and what the customer is comfortable spending, then schedule the detail.
Arrival, wash, and exterior preparation
On the scheduled day, the vehicle is set up in a suitable work area and receives a careful exterior wash to remove loose dirt and road film. Depending on the contamination present, preparation includes a pre-rinse or foam pre-wash, a careful contact wash using clean wash media, and thorough rinsing and drying. Wheels, tires, jambs, and exterior trim are addressed as part of the agreed exterior-detail scope.
Next comes chemical decontamination. An iron-remover treatment helps dissolve embedded ferrous particles that ordinary washing will not remove. The paint is then assessed and, where needed, mechanically decontaminated with a clay bar and appropriate lubricant to lift bonded contaminants. The goal is a clean, smooth surface before machine polishing—not to use aggressive clay action as a substitute for correction.
Paint correction: the work this vehicle needed
The black Mercedes-Benz E350 presented a combination of heavy swirl marks, moderate to heavy scratches, water spotting, and oxidation that had dulled the finish. The vehicle needed more than a maintenance wash: the paint required a careful assessment and a two-step correction to restore clarity and improve the reflections before long-term protection.
The test spot confirmed the need for a two-step correction. A compounding stage was used to address the more pronounced swirls and scratches, followed by a finishing polish to refine the surface and restore gloss. Work was performed methodically, panel by panel, with repeated lighting checks and attention to clear-coat limits. Deep defects and severe etching are not automatically safe to remove, so correction is always balanced against paint preservation.
Correction is performed in controlled sections. We clean pads as needed, inspect the finish under appropriate lighting, and adjust the process if a panel responds differently. Paint thickness and the condition of the clear coat guide how far we can responsibly go. Some deep scratches, etching, or defects that have penetrated too far may need to remain rather than risk compromising the paint.
Panel preparation and ceramic coating
After polishing, an IPA-based panel wipe removed residual polishing oils so the coating could bond to a properly prepared surface. The vehicle then received a three-year ceramic coating. The coating adds hydrophobic properties and helps simplify maintenance while protecting the corrected finish from everyday environmental contamination. Proper washing and ongoing care remain essential.
Coating is applied to a properly prepared surface, panel by panel, following the product's application and leveling requirements. We monitor for high spots and missed areas, allow the coating to cure as directed, and complete a final inspection under suitable lighting. The customer receives care guidance so the finish can be maintained correctly.
How our three core services fit together
01 · Mobile detailing
Mobile detailing is the convenient on-site cleaning and care side of our business. Depending on the package selected, it can include interior cleaning, vacuuming, surface care, glass, wheels, tires, and a thorough exterior wash. It is also the maintenance service that helps keep a corrected and coated vehicle looking its best between major paint services. Interior detailing is not represented as completed on this vehicle unless it was included in the agreed scope.
02 · Paint correction
Paint correction is the machine-polishing process used to improve defects such as wash-induced swirls, marring, and certain scratches. The appropriate level—one-step, two-step, or multi-stage—is determined by inspection and a test spot, not by a one-size-fits-all promise. This is the stage that improves the paint before a protective coating is installed.
03 · Ceramic coating
Ceramic coating is the protection stage applied after the paint has been properly cleaned, corrected as agreed, and panel-prepped. It enhances gloss and water behavior and helps with routine maintenance. It does not make paint scratch-proof, stop stone chips, or replace safe washing and maintenance.
Final result and ongoing care
The finished vehicle leaves with paint that has been refined to the agreed level and protected with the coating selected for this project. The best long-term results come from maintenance washes with safe methods, avoiding automatic brush washes, and following the coating-care guidance. Actual durability varies with driving conditions, storage, washing habits, and maintenance.
